Research Study Participants, Procedures, and the Instrument(s)[WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 4, 6]

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Chapters 13 through 17 from the course text, Statistics for People Who (Think They) Hate Statistics: Using Microsoft Excel, as needed.

This week, you will complete the following components of the methods section for the Research Design Proposal.

This section of the proposal should have the following sections:

  • Participants—Population or Sample: Your research study may include the entire population or a subset or sample of the population. If your study will employ a sample, you must choose the appropriate sampling method. (If you wish to review sampling methods, you may revisit the Types of Sampling interactive from Week 1.) In this section of your paper,
    • If you will utilize a sample,
      • Describe the sampling method (e.g., random sampling, systematic sampling, multi-stage cluster sampling, stratified sampling, convenience, snowball, or other) in your research study.
      • Include the rationale for utilizing the sampling method you propose.
    • If you will not be utilizing a sample,
      • Explain how everyone will be assigned to each group if you use an experimental or quasi-experimental method.
  • Procedure: In this section of your paper,
    • Describe the precise procedures you will use in conducting this research study (i.e., exactly what you will do in the study).
      • It should be clear enough so that anyone could replicate the study. In other words, clearly explain to the reader how you will collect the data.
  • Instruments in the Study Design: In this section of your paper,
    • Identify the instrument you will use to collect data in your research study.
      • Describe the instrument. If you are conducting a survey or interview, include a minimum of seven questions you will ask.
