Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Chapters 10, 11, and 12 from the course text, Statistics for People Who (Think They) Hate Statistics: Using Microsoft Excel, as needed.

This week, you will complete the first part of the methods section for the Research Design Proposal. The methods section is the step-by-step description of what the research question or hypothesis is, how the data will be collected, and how that data will be analyzed to support the research question or hypothesis. You must use at least one scholarly source, as outlined in the Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible SourcesLinks to an external site. table, in addition to the course text.

This section of the proposal should have the following sections:

  • Research Question or Hypothesis: The research question(s) is(are) the question(s) the research study wants to answer. There can be more than one research question in quantitative studies. A hypothesis is not a question but rather a statement about the relationship between two or more variables. To develop a hypothesis, you need the variables, the population, and the relationship between the variables. In this section of your paper,
    • Create your research question(s) or hypothesis(es) for your research study, and
    • Provide the rationale.
      • For information on how to develop a research question or hypothesis, review the Writing Center resource Narrowing a Topic and Developing a Research QuestionLinks to an external site..
  • Design: The research design reflects the overall plan or strategy to unite the components of the study, ensuring you will effectively address the research problem. In this section of your paper,
    • State the research design of the study, the independent and dependent variables, and what the task will be (e.g., what you will have the participants do).
  • Data Type: In this section of your paper,
    • Describe the statistical techniques to be used to analyze the data.
    • Determine whether the data is primary or secondary.
    • Provide a rationale for your specific data analysis decisions.
    • Cite at least one peer-reviewed source on the chosen analysis technique.
