Research Paper Topic: The impact of Intermodal transport in the reduction of carbon emission in the international supply chains
This paper will focus on intermodal transportation that includes rail, road, and maritime transport to illustrate how it can significantly reduce carbon emissions in the international supply chain. Intermodal transportation is one of the possible solutions that appear to be critical with the increasing demand for efficient and with minimum impact on the environment freight transport. The basis for the study will be the evaluation of the effects of intermodal transport systems on the environment compared to the single mode systems particularly, on the basis of the life cycle carbon footprint. The research question guiding this study is: “How does the notion of intermodal transport reduce carbon footprint in the supply chain and what are the key factors that define the sustainability of intermodal transport?” In responding to this question, this study aims to establish the role of intermodal transport in the achievement of the logistics environmental objectives.
