Stress Reduction Experiential Activity and Assignment

We learned about stress, crisis, and coping all semester and now is the time to put our knowledge to use.  For this assignment you will pick a stress reduction activity described in class, our textbook and/or the peer reviewed literature.  This stress reduction activity must be one that you have never tried before. You must participate in this activity for at least 2 hours. (For example, if you choose to try yoga as your experiential activity, you will participate in 2 hours of yoga, which is usually 2 classes.)

Plan ahead!  It is highly recommended you identify an activity early in the semester. Waiting until the last minute will limit your options. The activity must have been completed at the time you write the paper- things you already did will not count.

(Please use Journal entry – I used this for a month trying to get rid of my addiction with social media but then started journaling regularly even after that to help eliminate stress) This was the 1st time I started using journaling.

You will submit:

1. Proof of your activity. This will vary depending on what you did but could include a photo, a receipt (e.g., receipt for a yoga class), a snapshot of a journal entry if you picked journal writing, etc.

2. A reflection paper summarizing your experience and lessons learned. Since this is a reflective paper it’s fine to use first person language.

1. Description of the activity and the evidence we have that this is effective. (This section must include citations).

2. Summary- Summarize what action you took. What did you do?

3. Effect on you- Describe how this activity affected you. Some possible questions to explore include: What impact did this activity have on you, emotionally or intellectually? What was it like? What thoughts and feelings do you have about it?

4. Impact on stress- What impact did this specifically have on your stress? Describe. If no impact, describe why you feel there was no impact.

5. Change in approach- If you could do it over again, would you change anything about the activity you engaged in? Why or why not?

6. Next steps- What are your next steps? Do you plan to continue this activity? Try other activities?

Paper should be 4 pages in APA format excluding the title and reference page.
